Abstract
781,208. Travelling-wave tubes. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DE TELEGRAPHIE SANS FIL. March 10, 1955 [March 11, 1954], No. 7132/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(c)] In a pulse operated travelling-wave tube of the magnetron type, the cathode 1, Fig. 1, normally blocked, is unblocked periodically and the voltage applied between the delay line 4 and the negative electrode 2 is an alternating voltage with the peaks in synchronism with the cathode unblocking pulses. The cathode 1 is grounded except when negative pulses are supplied to it by way of a transformer 9 from a source 10. Source 10 is synchronized with A.C. source 12. Positive pulses may be applied to an auxiliary electrode 3. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, with coaxial electrodes 2, 4, a circular magnetic field and a radial electric field, cathode 1 is normally held by the emission at the potential of electrode 3, but is periodically grounded by a rotary switch 19. The pulsing system of Fig. 1 may be used instead, and both the electric and magnetic fields may be alternating. Specifications 751,034 and 753,688 are referred to.
