Abstract

806,510. Colour television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 9, 1957. [Aug. 13, 1956], No. 25207/57. Class 39(1). A cathode ray tube having grouped, substantially parallel strips of phosphor luminescing in various colours on electron impact is provided in each group, or a multiple thereof, with the same number of indexing strips of a material whose specific conductivity varies upon electron impact, these strips being arranged between two electrodes. One of the particular phosphors itself may be of such a material, or the material may be mixed with a particular colour phosphor. Alternatively the material may be located in separate strips 13, Fig. 5, between each group of colour phosphors, 7, 9, 11. As shown the strips 13 are provided with individual electrode strips 43, 45 of which the electrode strips 43 are electron pervious and the electrodes 45 are of conducting transparent material, a common supply wire being connected to each set 43, 45 and the pulses induced by the scanning beam appearing as an increased current in the resistor 53. Instead of individual electrodes 43, 45 either set, or both, may be united to form an uninterrupted layer. The electrodes 43 may be of aluminium and the electrodes 45 of tin oxide.
