Abstract

1,147,137. Cathode-ray display tubes. GENERAL ELECTRODYNAMICS CORP. 4 April, 1967 [7 April, 1966], No. 15471/67. Heading H1D. In a symbol-displaying cathode-ray tube in which a flooding beam from cathode 14 is directed to a luminescent screen 13 through a barrier 21 comprising a plurality of perforated separate conducting layers each configured to form a symbol and an electrically separated background which may be selectively biased, the luminescent screen comprises a plurality of separate colour phosphors areas, e.g. in the form of strips, and the electrons are directed only to certain phosphors by a " switching grid " 16 to display the symbols in a selected one of a number of colours. The " switching grid " 16 comprises groups of perforated conductive areas, the areas of each group being energized to prevent or to allow the electrons to pass through them as desired. The conducting layers of the barrier 21 may be applied to glass discs and to anodized aluminium foils.
