Abstract
716,769. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Nov. 25, 1952 [Nov. 28, 1951], No. 29791/52. Class 39(1) In a cathode-ray tube such as for use in colour television, in which a plurality of electron guns produce a plurality of electron beams directed at a common point on a collecting screen, the electron guns are housed in parallel tubes 5, 6, 7, Fig. 1, connected to the bottom of the envelope, and a magnetic device for focusing the beams comprises a plurality of pairs of magnetic poles each in proximity to one of the guns, and a single coil energizing winding surrounding all the poles. The magnetic poles are comprised by a pair of plates 14, 15, Fig. 2, having apertures 17, 18 for receiving the tubes 5, 6, 7. Adjustable sleeves 19 of magnetic material are provided in the apertures in the lower plate 15. A magnetic cylinder 16 unites the upper and lower plates 14, 15 and encloses the energizing winding 13. The collecting screen 2 may comprise a mosaic of phosphor elements, the grid 3 in front of the screen comprising a large number of small apertures, or the phosphor elements may be arranged in lines, the grid comprising a number of wires. The electron guns may be arranged in a straight line or at the apexes of a triangle.
