Abstract

754,261. Colour television tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. April 21, 1954 [April 30, 1953], No. 11553/54. Class 39 (1). A cathode-ray tube with a plurality of electron beams, a patterned apertured member and a viewing screen, e.g. a colour television tube, has individual non-circular apertures in diaphragms placed in the beams before deflection designed to prevent overlap and dilution of the separate beams on the viewing screen. In a multi-line colour tube 19 with a deflection grill of fine parallel wires, the diaphragms b, f, g are located within the first anodes of the respective guns and are of truncated spherical shape, Fig. 3, with the long dimension parallel to the colour lines. The portions of the beam giving overlap on the viewing screen are cut off at the sides a, a1 of the diaphragms. The beams may each span three or more grill wires w1, w2, w3, as shown in Fig. 9. When the apertured screen is of the dot-type with the dots arranged on a hexagonal pattern the diaphragm apertures 57 are of hexagonal shape, Fig. 11. The three guns may be in delta formation or in line.
