Abstract

794,257. Cathode-ray tubes. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. May 14, 1954 [May 19, 1953], No. 14168/54. Class 39(1). In a "flat" television receiver tube the beam 46, Fig. 2, is deflected at progressively varying positions along an initial trajectory, in a plane parallel with the screen 42, into a path extending across the screen, and at progressively varying positions along the path out of the plane and into impact with the screen. Voltages are applied sequentially to the wires of deflection grids 51 and 61 by generators 58 and 64 each of which may consist of an electron beam sweeping across a row of contacts connected individually to the grid wires. The voltage generators may be disposed between the screen and a tray-shaped rear portion of the tube. In a colour or stereoscopic picture tube several screens each with its own beam may,be placed one behind the other. In a 3-colour tube, Fig. 6, a transparent target 90 with different phosphors on its opposite faces is associated with two beams 100, 101, and a third phosphor is provided on a transparent target 96 associated with a third beam 104. Wires of equal level in the three deflection grids 102, 103 and 105 are connected in parallel.
