[Class 40 (v)] [Also in Group XXXV] An oscillator of Hartley type feeding a discharge lamp comprises a coil with tapping points connected to the grid and cathode and negative supply line or, as shown, to the grid and anode and positive supply line. The tapped portion o, m is shunted by a much larger portion o, l. As shown, the oscillator tube is a tetrode enclosed in the same envelope as a supply rectifier. The two heaters are in series across the full mains voltage and the switching on of the unit is controlled by a time switch. An electrolytic smoothing condenser K2 is provided. The arrangement will work on a D.C. supply.
