Abstract
551,767. Thermionic relay circuits. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. (General Electric Co.). Dec. 15, 1941, No. 16136. [Class 40 (v)] A relay 5 shunted by a capacitor preferably electrolytic with a resistance 7 to prevent oscillation or polarity reversal in the capacitor, is controlled by a vapour electric discharge device 4 of the shield grid type described in Specification 445,593 and a rectifying photo-electric device 19 arranged as follows. - A transformer winding 3 supplying the anode .circuit of the valve 4 has a section 9, 12 supplying a condenser 10 and resistance 11 to give a grid bias wave through resistances 13, 14 which is 90 degrees in advance of the anode voltage wave, and a section 12, 21 arranged in association with the recifying photocell 19 to charge a condenser 22 in parallel with resistance 13 whereby negative bias impulses are supplied during current conducting half-cycles of the anode circuit. Thus the grid voltage is maintained below the critical voltage until the intensity of light on the photo-cell is sufficiently decreased, whereupon the valve will fire early in each positive half cycle.
