518,093. Induction motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., MAGGS, A. H., and CHOUDHURY, S. U. A. Aug. 15, 1938, No. 24021. [Class 35] In an induction motor provided with a resistance in series with the main winding and connected in parallel with an auxiliary winding for starting and cut out for running a condenser is also connected in parallel with the auxiliary winding. Fig. 1, shows a condenser-7 connected across the main winding 3 and auxiliary winding 4, a resistance 5 being put in parallel with the winding 4 for starting by a contact arm 6, which connects the winding 3 directly across the supply for running. A condenser connected directly across the winding 4, or connected across the whole or part of the resistance 5, may be used along with, or instead of, the condenser 7. Fig. 4 shows a condenser 17 connected to the junction of the resistance 5 and winding 3 and to a series of contacts, so that a triple contact arm 6 puts it in parallel with decreasing portions of the resistance 5 during starting, finally cutting it out. In this case also a condenser 7 may be connected across the windings 3 and 4, as shown by the dotted lines.
