Nov. 2, 1933, No. 30489. Convention date, Nov. 4, 1932. [Class 38 (iii).] A single-phase motor is provided with an odd number of phase-splitting condensers, in series with the motor but arranged to be connected in parallel for starting, the connections being such that the current during running does not pass through any switch contacts other than those of the ordinary line switch. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement of three similar condensers 15, 16, 17 in series with the starting-winding 11 of the motor 12 and a double-pole single-throw switch 19, 20 by which the condensers can be connected in parallel for starting. Other modifications described include a set of three condensers, one of which is larger than the others and is short-circuited during running, and an arrangement of five condensers.
