[Class 35] The main winding of a single - phase alternating- current induction motor, Fig. 1, having one or more condensers 4, 5 connected in an auxiliary circuit for starting purposes is divided into halves 1, 2 adapted to be connected in series across the outers of a threewire supply and in parallel across one of the outers and the neutral, and the auxiliary circuit is so connected that the voltage applied thereto is substantially the same for each condition of operation, the auxiliary circuit remaining connected during normal running of the motor with an altered capacity value. In the form shown, the condenser 5 is disconnected by the switch 6 for normal running. In a modification, Fig. 3, the auxiliary circuit has a single condenser 10 and the circuit is connected through switch contact 12 across one main winding half for starting and closed on itself through switch contact 13 for normal running as described in Specification 405,591. A condenser may be placed in each of the heads X, Y, to replace condenser 10, the one in lead X being of higher capacity than the other. Specification 396,259 also is referred to.
