477,683. Induction motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 30, 1937, No. 21202. Convention date, July 31, 1936. [Class 35] A split-phase motor with main and auxiliary windings of different pole numbers has one supply terminal connected to both main windings and to both auxiliary windings either directly or through a phase-splitting device and the other supply terminal connected to the main and auxiliary windings of either pole number at will. In the form shown, the motor has main and auxiliary windings 12, 11 of one pole number and corresponding windings 14, 13 of another number and one pair of these is energized when switch 15 engages contacts 17, 18, 28 or 20, 21, 29. In each switch position, relay 25 has its winding in parallel with a starting winding and accordingly disconnects the second condenser 24 on reaching a predetermined speed. In another form, the condenser 16 only is used and is permanently in circuit. In another form, a centrifugal switch is provided to disconnect the condenser and auxiliary windings at a predetermined speed..
