Abstract

491,469. Electric motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 1, 1937, No. 18327. Convention date, July 1, 1936. [Class 35] In a three-phase squirrel-cage motor of the type in which a braking-member sliding on the shaft is disengaged by the magnetic action of the rotor core when the current is switched on the rotor core is furnished with a hollow conical portion with which a corresponding portion of the braking member engages. In the arrangement shown the sliding member is provided with a braking surface p engaging a fixed member g and a conical part f entering and engaging with an extension h on the rotor to complete the magnetic circuit therethrough. The extension h of the rotor is separated from the main portion a by a laminated non-magnetic portion d and an air-gap l separates the stator into two corresponding portions; both the rotor and stator windings pass through the extended portion of the rotor and stator respectively.
