Abstract
458,671. Alternating-current motors. SIEMENS - SCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.- GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 18, 1935, No. 14639. Convention date, May 18, 1934. [Class 35] A rotating field synchronous motor of the type comprising an unwound rotor of magnet steel is run between starting and normal running at a voltage greater than that necessary to magnetize the motor to the strength at which it is designed to run. For this purpose the field winding 1 may be fed through an auto-transformer 3 ; the machine is started with the sliding contacts a at the lowest position, they are then moved up to the position shown, and finally to the position b, so that the machine runs at line voltage. The change may also be effected through tappings on the field winding, or by connecting the windings in delta for magnetizing and in star for running. The rotor may be solid or laminated, and may be provided with a squirrel cage starting winding, or may be coated with copper for the same purpose. A formula is given connecting the pole division, air gap, and remanence and coercive force of the rotor.
