Abstract
418,174. Alternating-current motors. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES., 1, Hofstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. March 22, 1934, No. 8968. Convention date, March 31, 1933. [Class 35.] A small self-starting synchronous motor has a stator with more than two split poles and a rotor formed of a material of high coercive force without salient poles and bearing a squirrel cage winding whereby it has a speed equal to that of the rotary field. The stator comprises an iron core 1 carrying the exciting coil 15 and having at opposite ends cross - shaped pole-pieces 2, 3. Each pole is divided into two parts projecting through a copper ring 13 which has a slot 24 near one limb of each pole so that an eightpole rotary field is obtained. The rotor 16 consists of a capshaped steel member having on each side a copper ring 20 connected by copper rivets to constitute a squirrel cage winding. The flange 18 of the rotor is slit at 19 to prevent migration of the induced poles. The number of slits should not be divisible by the number of stator poles and with an eight-pole stator, the preferred number is twenty-one.
