Abstract
917,209. Synchronous induction motors. ALLIS-CHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 25, 1961 [Sept. 13, 1960], No. 30715/61. Class 35. In a synchronous induction motor in which the squirrel-cage rotor has salient poles 45 provided with longitudinal flux-barrier slots 41, 49 to reduced quadrature flux, e.g. as described in Specification 771,669, permanent magnets 55 are used, preferably in these slots, to buck the quadrature flux to further improve the synchronizing torque and power-factor of the motor. The poles may be separated by cut-outs 46. The magnets 55 are situated, as shown, in connecting slots 49 and, if desired, in the cut-outs 46, and they are magnetized in alternate radial directions so as to buck flux trying to enter or leave the rotor between the poles. In addition, the flux-barrier slots 41 may contain magnets 55a. If magnets are used in the cut-outs, these may be of graded thickness, and may lie at the rotor surface. Medial slot 53 may also carry magnet material.
