Abstract

456,206. Magnets; magneto-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Feb. 7, 1936, No. 3809. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1935. [Class 35] A rotary permanent magnet is formed by casting metal symmetrically about a tube of metal which can easily be machined. In the form shown, alloy is cast about a tube 14 and has salient polepieces 11 of shorter axial length. Damping windings may be provided on the poles to reduce the tendency to become de-magnetized. The stator 16 is provided with a distributed winding. Such a machine may be used as a generator or as a non-self-starting motor. The magnet may be enclosed in annular laminµ and used in conjunction with a shaded bi-polar stator as a self-starting synchronous motor.
