Abstract

456,373. Magnets ; magnetizing permanent magnets ; motors. SIEMENSSCHUCKERTWERKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. May 20, 1935, No. 14734. Convention date, May 19, 1934. Drawings to Specification. [Class 35] Motors with unwound iron armatures.-The magnet of a magneto-electric power machine, either a motor or a generator, as distinguished from an ignition magneto or like apparatus, is magnetized in situ by connecting a capacity across the armature winding and rotating the machine. The machine is preferably driven at a speed higher than the running speed and the capacity is so chosen that the oscillating circuit including it and the stray inductance of the machine is in resonance with the rotation. A direct current machine may be provided with tappings and slip-rings to which the capacity is connected. The capacity may be permanently in circuit, especially for inductive loads. The armature winding may be connected in several phases for magnetization, but in single phase for running. The rotor of a single phase machine may be provided with a squirrel cage damper winding. The rotor may be a solid or hollow cylinder without salient poles and with a copper coating to act as a damper winding.
