439,893. Alternating-current motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. June 13, 1934, No. 17514. Convention date, June 13, 1933. [Class 35] The unwound rotor of a synchronous motor is magnetized by a separate permanent magnet 8 located in the space between the stator pole faces. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the rotor consists of a pair of lugs 19, 20 with extensions 22, 23 which are almost semicircular, connected by a shaft 18 carried by the fixed permanent 17 which is magnetized axially. In the form shown in Fig. 4, there are several lugs 26, 27 extending from the vicinity of each end of the magnet 17<1> and the two sets of lugs are imbricated. The rotor is located between the divided and shaded poles of a U-shaped stator which carries a single energized coil. The permanent magnet may alternatively be arranged to rotate.
