Abstract
372,164. Induction machines. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburg, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Jordan, R. H. ; 88, Windemere Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, U.S.A.) July 14, 1931, No. 20149. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1930. [Class 35.] A reversible singlephase n-pole induction motor with a shortcircuited rotor has 2n shaded salient poles having windings divided into two sets which can be selectively energized, and the shading-coil slots are located in alternate adjacent pairs of poletips. In the form shown, each pole 13 has a shading coil 16, and the pole windings 17 are arranged so that alternate pairs of poles are of the same polarity. When contacts 21, 22 are connected, four alternate poles are effective, and for the other direction of rotation, contacts 21, 23 are connected to energize the windings on the other four poles.
