Abstract

289,401. Urbinati, M. April 26, 1927, [Convention date]. Commutator switching- arrangements. - In converting A.C. to D.C. or vice versa by means of a commutator switch having rotating brushes driven by a synchronous motor, provision is made for varying the angular position of the brushes in relation to the neutral zone in accordance with load variations. A D.C. motor is arranged on the same shaft as the synchronous motor, and the load on the latter is varied so as to vary the angular displacement of the rotor by varying the excitation of the D.C. motor by means of a series winding which is provided in addition to a shunt winding. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also an arrangement, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), in which an electromagnet e energized by the load current bears against a brake disc d on the rotor shaft, Fig. 2(Cancelled) shows an alternative arrangement in which the rotor shaft carries a copper disc d in which eddy currents are induced by the magnet e energized in accordance with the load. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
