Picking-motions; checking shuttles; shuttles.- The shuttle R is actuated by a travelling magnetic field produced by three-phase or polyphase windings N arranged along or at each end of the shuttle race E which is formed as a laminated iron core, the currents being controlled by a commutator driven by the loom S in conjunction with a reversing switch in such a manner that the incoming shuttle is checked by the field. The shuttle, which is mounted on rollers, is made entirely of iron or of an iron casing enclosing a squirred cage Cu.
