Abstract

302,497. Keller, A. V., and Ancoek, B. F. Dec. 14, 1927. Rotary machines; coils; exciting. - A low-voltage continuous-current motor comprises one or more permanent magnets 3 having wound soft iron poles 5 between which rotates a disc armature 9 provided with a number of coils 21, the ends of the coils being connected to the segments of a commutator 15 upon which bear fixed brushes 11 adapted to be connected to the source of supply, the middle points of the coils being connected to the segments of a second. commutator 16 upon which bear brushes 7 connected to coils 6 upon the soft iron poles of the magnets. The permanent magnets preferably consist of steel laminations of high coercive force bolted together and adjustably secured in a frame 2 by screws 8, and the ends 4 are bored to receive the soft-iron cores 5. The armature coils preferably have the shape shown in Fig. 4 and are so located on the armature that the flux from the magnets passes only through the extended ends 22. The coils are held between thin pressed discs of aluminium or other material lined with insulating material and are secured by pressed indentations on the discs. The spindle 10 may carry a number of separate armatures co-operating with a number of independent magnets or with a single equivalent magnet.
