Abstract

Magneto-electric machines; machines with two or more armatures.-In a magneto having two windings on the rotor, one for lighting and one for ignition, the two armatures are mounted side by side, the one for lighting and general use being of cylindrical wound drum form j, Fig. 1, and the ignition armature e being of shuttle form and supplying current to a stationary induction coil d mounted above the armatures. The drum armature is mounted on a sleeve k which is slipped on the shaft g and secured by a key l or other means. The commutator may be secured to the sleeve or the spindle. The shuttle armature is secured between a flange i on the shaft and an end-piece h which carries the condenser and the outer portion g<1> of the spindle. In the form shown, the magnet a has two pairs of polepieces b, c on each side of the armature, but it may be arranged with the pole-pieces above and below the armatures, in which case shorter magnets may be employed on one or both sides of the armatures while the induction coil, above the armatures, is protected by a shield.
