Abstract
626,622. Exciting dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 11, 1945, No. 23397. Convention date, Sept. 16, 1944. [Class 35] In an armature reaction excited machine with primary and secondary brushes displaced 90 electrical degrees, each pole carries a winding producing a field along the secondary axis and is arranged to complete through the armature the circuit of the primary flux while the secondary flux path is through two adjacent poles, the intervening part of the yoke and the high reluctance regions arranged between each pole and the yoke. In the form shown, each pole is laminated, is separated from the yoke 10 by a non-magnetic spacer 15 and carries a .separately excited coil 17 producing the main field in the direction of the arrows 18 and is assisted by series coils 24, while the secondary armature reaction acting in the direction of the arrows 27 is offset by the series compensating coils in slots between the subdivisions 29 of the poles. Windings 19 disposed on the two main subdivisions 20, 21 of the poles produce a flux denoted by arrows 22 aiding the primary armature reaction, these coils being connected across the primary brushes 2, 3, 4, 5 arranged between the load brushes 6, 7, 8, 9.
