Abstract

10,758. Newton, F. May 3. [Addition to 15,423/10.] Exciting.- In one construction, the correcting-flux dependent upon the differential action of saturated and unsaturated magnetic field circuits is caused to operate upon a separate armature. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, separate armatures 28, 29 are provided for the saturated and unsaturated fields 31, 32 respectively, the correcting-flux in the winding 35 operating upon the armature 30. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the difference of flux in the saturated and unsaturated magnetic circuits 43, 44 is applied to the exciter armature 45. The windings 43, 44 may be connected in parallel with the main armature 42 for constant potential or in series for constant current. The winding 41 may be connected across the armatures 42, 45 in series, or simply across the armature 45. The latter armature may function as the main armature. The machines described in the parent Specification may also be used as constant - current machines by exciting them with the main current. In another modification the separate fields may operate upon separate armature conductors on a common core by making the saturated and unsaturated magnetic fields of different numbers of poles and providing the armature with windings of corresponding numbers of poles. In a further modification, the correcting-winding may be wound on the yoke of the field magnets instead of on the pole-pieces.
