Abstract
136,683. Smith, E. A. Jan. 17, 1919. Magneto-electric machines.-An ignition magneto comprises the combination with a horseshoe magnet M attached to a pair of pole-shoes E, F, of a motor having a wound armature D<2> around which are arranged rotor pole-pieces A, A<2> parallel to the axis of rotation, which are alternately magnetically connected to the armature core at opposite ends by iron plates C, C<2>, the remaining ends of the pole-pieces being magnetically insulated from the core D<2> bv attachment to brass disks B, B<2>. One pole-piece of each set comes simultaneously beneath the magnet poles E, F, thus producing an alternating magnetic flux through the core D<2>. The rotor is made by first attaching the end plates to the core, then putting on the windings G, H, then applying the insulation J, and finally attaching the bars A, A<2>. The core may comprise longitudinal laminations secured between side plates D<3>, or, according to the Provisional Specification, steel washers threaded upon a nickel-steel spindle. Specification 21268/05 is referred to.
