Abstract
272,472. Scintilla Akt.-Ges. June 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Inductor-machines. - An ignition generator comprises a stationary magnet a, stationary generating coils and a rotary inductor e providedat its ends with uniformly grooved pole discs d which lie opposite the similarly grooved polepieces b of the magnet and the grooves of one pole-piece are angularly displaced by half the pitch of the grooves relatively to the grooves of the other pole-piece at the same end of the apparatus; a large number of current impulses. accordingly is generated per revolution (twentyfour in the example shown) but the interrupter is arranged to open a fewer number of times depending upon the number of engine cylinders. The magnet pole-pieces are carried by magnetic yokes c situated at the magnet poles, and theupper and lower pole-pieces have respectively six and seven teeth m. The generating coils are wound around the inductor e and in the position shown, the flux traverses the coil from the left hand lower pole-piece to the right hand upper pole-piece, but when the inductor is rotated through half a tooth pitch, the direction of the flux through the coil is reversed. The magnetic circuit with the exception of the magnet c is preferably laminated, or the inductor may consist of wires or compression iron filings, and an electromagnet may be substituted for the permanent magnet shown. The pole-pieces band yokes c may be cast in non-magnetic metal or in an insulating material which may form the coil carrier. The generating coils may be wound on one or both of the yokes c and the inductor may be adjustable on the shaft by automatic or other means so as to vary the timing.
