Abstract
137,002. Ames, B. May 29, 1919. Magneto-electric machines; polepieces.-Relates to magnetos of the type in which the armature is furnished with pole-pieces arranged in different diametral planes at the ends of the armature and co-acting with correspondingly placed pole-pieces on the field magnet, and consists in improvements in the construction of the armature and of the pole-pieces of the field magnet. The armature is built up of three portions, the end pieces 14, 15, Figs. 9 and 11, being made of aluminium or like material into which are cast or otherwise secured the laminated pole-pieces 21, 22. The central portion of the armature consists of a cylinder 13 of insulating-material slotted to receive the ends of the pole-pieces and enclosing the windings and core; the latter is ground smooth at the ends to fit closely against the pole-pieces. The whole is held together by an axial screw 33. The end piece 15 is hollow to receive a condenser 38 of the type described in Specification 137,003, [Class 38 (ii), Electric currents, Converting &c.], with appropriate securing and leads. The polepieces 4, Fig. 3, of the field magnet are formed of iron laminations cast into the frame 1 and having holes stamped in the upper lamination to receive the ends of the permanent magnets 2.
