1,031,227. Dynamo-electric machines. LICENTIA PATENT - VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. March 1, 1963 [March 2, 1962; April 9, 1962], No. 8284/63. Heading H2A. A dynamo-electric machine, e.g. turbinedriven generator, vehicle lighting alternator, or phase shifter, which is made long and of small diameter, in order to limit centrifugal forces, comprises a rotor 2 having a plurality of rows 8, 10; 12, 13; and 9, 11 of interdigitated polepieces mounted on a non-magnetizable shaft 1, a stator having laminated core portions 14 . . . 16 in slots of which is a winding 17 the core portions being carried by the cylindrical portion of a surrounding ferromagnetic housing 3 which has end-plates 25 extending towards and forming air gaps 23 with the rotor 2, and stationary excitation means in the radial range of the stator whereby a magnetic flux 22 is produced that successively passes through the housing and the component machines formed by the polepiece rows and associated core portions. The means are either permanent magnets or annular coils 18, 19 at the stator ends and possibly 20, 21 between the core portions, and the winding 17, the induced part, is common to all the core portions. The machine may be operated at a frequency higher than standard.
