Magneto-electric machines; pole-pieces and cores; windings; frames. - A magneto-electric machine comprises two or more pole-pieces 1, each having two abutments formed by projections 4 and constructed as a unit with the polar faces located by non-magnetic members 15; permanent magnets 2 are held against the abutments by means of a band 5, and bearing- brackets 18, 19 engage the members 15. The armature end-plates 28 may be flanged as shown in Fig. 3, and a similar construction may be used for the field-magnet pole-pieces. The polepieces 1 may be formed of laminations 43 which are similar and unsymmetrical and assembled to form stepped polar faces. The armature slots are preferably partially closed and may be obliquely arranged, and the windings 48, 49, Fig. 5, are connected in series.
