Pole-pieces and yokes.- A dynamo-electric generator is provided with means for automatically limiting the current and voltage at excessive speeds, such means consisting in adding an extension or series of extensions without moving parts to the pole-piece or yoke to form an air gap of constant dimensions between the polepieces and yoke so that the distorted flux produced bv armature reaction at high speeds is deflected across the gap. Fig. 1 shows an extension a fitted to the pole A so that a gap is provided between the pole and the yoke C. An extension may be fitted on each side of the poleshoe or on the yoke C. The extension a may consist of a single bar fixed to the outer faces of the pole-shoe or yoke, or may be made up of plates or stampings interleaved with the core laminations.
