Abstract
523,055. Dynamos. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DAVIES, E. C. Nov. 24, 1938, No. 34189. [Class 35] In a direct current generator having a leakage path arranged to divert a part of the main field flow from the armature to a degree decreasing as the current increases the leakage path is approximately saturated at no load, which is stated to prevent excessive demagnetization if an alteration of the load produces a reverse current in the generator. For this purpose poles 2 carrying shunt windings 5 are connected by a magnetic bridge 3 carrying a winding 4 in series with the generator armature, the bridge 3 being of such size as to be saturated by the leakage flux from the poles 2 at no load. To cause the pole-yoke circuit to be saturated at full load openings may be made in the poles. Some of the poles may be provided with inserts of material of high magnetic retentivity in contact with the metal of the yoke, but separated from the pole by non-magnetic packing.
