[Class 35] Commutating poles and windings; cores.-A welding-generator is provided with magnetic shunts extending tangentially between the poles and wound with windings in series with the machine, which may be shunt - wound, or have in addition a small series winding. Fig. 2 shows a two pole machine provided with a shunt 34 between the poles 33, but separated from them by air gaps, having a winding 35. A single commutating pole 36 is also provided, having a winding 37 and a tooth 38 extending towards one of the poles 33. The machine may be regulated by a resistance in series with the main shunt winding and tappings on the windings 35. Modifications are described in which, instead of such tappings, the windings 36, 37 are divided into two or more portions, which can be connected in series or in parallel by a switch.
