967. Wade, H., [Mason, C. T.]. Jan. 13. Inductor-alternators.-In an inductor machine forignition in gas-engines &c., the inductor pole-pieces 60, 61 remain throughout the rotation permanently in close magnetic relation with the poles 59, 58 of the member 57 which carries the generating-coils 65. The inductor poles are separated by a non-magnetic block 62, and the shafts 63, 64 are journaled, either in the laminµ forming the generating-member 57, or in the non-magnetic base members 55, 56. The poles 60, 61 may be in actual contact with the member 57, as shown, or there may be very narrow intervening air-gaps to reduce friction. For timing the spark, a rotatable cylinder may be employed, comprising magnetic sectors 66, 67 and non-magnetic separating-sectors 68, 69, the whole being rotated by a handle 70.
