Magneto - electric machines. - In a magneto of the rotating armature type, the magnet 3 is a tubular member rotatable within the machine housing 2 and the contactbreaker cam 4 is secured directly to or is formed integrally with the magnet and projects laterally from one end thereof. The magnet may be cast with polar projections as shown in Fig. 2 or it may be a forged ring with laminated soft-iron poles secured thereto. The contact-breaker comprises a movable contact 6 carried by a fibre plunger 7 and actuated by the cam on the magnet. A helical spring 9 or a leaf spring presses the plunger against the cam and both the movable contact parts and the adjustable fixed contact 10 are secured to the condenser end-plate 18. The magnet is provided with a timing lever 5 projecting through a slot in the housing. Accordingly, since the magnet and cam are movable together, the machine will spark equally well in the advance and retard positions.
