Abstract

609,048. Ignition magnetos. WIPAC DEVELOPMENT, Ltd., and LUTTMER, W. March 4, 1946, No. 6732. [Class 35] In an inductor magneto, two permanent magnets are arranged relatively to the armature core so that their fields are normally in opposition, but at intervals the magnets are shunted alternately by an inductor carried by the fly-wheel but disposed away from the axis of rotation thereof. As shown, the magnets 10, 11 which are short-circuited by the inductor 29 on the fly-wheel 27, may be in a sealed container with the polepieces 12, 13, 15, core 14 and windings 22, 23 or they may be embedded in a non-magnetic casting or moulding, or only the windings may be in such a container. For multi-cylinder engines additional inductors are provided and if unsymmetrical are balanced by non-magnetic material on the fly-wheel.
