Abstract

337,043. Lucas, Ltd., J., Turner, E. O., Mason, S. A., and Whitehouse, H. E. July 26, 1929. Magneto-electric machines.-A flywheel magneto, especially for motor-cycles, comprises a, generating coil on a core mounted transversely across a stationary member at one side of the axis of rotation, and an ignition coil and camoperated interrupter on the other side of this axis. The core has pole-pieces which co-operate with the rotating magnet system. In the form shown, a circular plate a fixed to the engine has mounted on one side of it and on one' side of the shaft r a core b with generating coils d and pole-pieces c and on the other side of the shaft is an ignition coil e and an interrupter f actuated by a cam s. Magnets o in diametrically opposite positions, and pole-pieces p on the flange n of the flywheel co-operate with the fixed pole-pieces c, the pole-pieces p preferably being of sufficient length to overlap the spaces between the polepieces c. The flywheel is enclosed by a cover, The terminal k is for connecting to the sparking plug, and current for lighting &c. may be taken from the generating coils at the terminal l.
