Abstract

267,481. Soc. des Magnetos R. B. March 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Inductor machines. - In an inductor-type ignition magneto the machine frame is made of a single block and the stationary magnets 3 have their axis parallel to and preferably coincident with the axis of the inductor so that the magnets and the frame form a closed casing protecting the armature coils. The armature core is formed with laminated extensions 4 carried by the non- magnetic frame and located between the magnet pole-pieces. The inductor comprises a non- magnetic core having two segments 10 of soft steel or laminated iron. With this arrangement, four flux changes per revolution are produced. in the armature core. The contact breaker is carried at the end of the frame or it mav be located within the bore of the frame. The distributer comprises a rotating brush 14 embedded in an insulating mass and adapted to contact with spaced contacts connected to terminals 17. The contact-breaker and distributer may be mounted in a separate casing and be actuated by gearing from the magneto shaft. Short magnets of cobalt steel may replace the horseshoe magnets. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a construction in which the magnet 3, Fig. 1 (Cancelled) is at right angles to the axis of the inductor. In another construction, the magnet and inductor axes are coincident but the frame does not enclose the armature coils. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
