[Class 35] A magneto-electric machine has a cast body part in which the permanent magnet or magnets and associated parts such as the pole-pieces are incorporated in the casting operation. As shown applied to an ignition magneto, Fig. 2, the permanent magnet a is mounted between laminated polepieces b the whole being held together by brass or other nonmagnetic end plates secured by rivets d. This unit is then placed in a mould and the body part e consisting of aluminium, zinc or brass is cast around it. Fig. 4 shows a small generator or motor in which the permanent magnet a is longer than the thickness of the polepieces b, iron end plates f being provided at one side of each of the polepieces extending to the adjacent ends of the magnets. Nickel-aluminium-iron alloys may be used for the magnets.
