340,740. Motors. KIENZLE UHRENFABRIKEN AKT.-GES., Schwenningenon-Neckar, Wurtemberg, Germany. Dec. 9, 1929, No. 37749. Convention date, Dec. 8, 1928. [Class 35.] Machines with two or more armatures ; alternating- current induction machines.- A self starting synchronous motor has on the same shaft an asynchronous rotor and an asynchronous rotor of which the former rotates in a rotary field and the latter in a non-rotating alternating field. The asynchronous part comprises a magnet 1 carrying a coil 2. The pole pieces 3, 4 are divided and one half of each carries a screening coil 5 to establish a rotating field. The squirrel-cage. rotor 6 is mounted on a shaft 11 to which is coupled through a spring 13 and an adjustable stop 14, a six-pole synchronous rotor 10 of magnet steel. The stator element for the synchronous rotor consists of pole pieces 7, 8 bolted to the magnet 1 and separated therefrom by magnetic distance-pieces 9. The pole pieces 7, 8 are divided as for a six-pole rotor, but on each side of a vertical plane of symmetry, one pole piece is lacking. Accordingly, the field due to the poles 3, 4 rotates at a higher speed than the six-pole rotor 10. The spring 13 permits the asynchronous rotor to start from rest. The synchronous motor element may be bi-polar.
