Abstract

373,700. Motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, TURNER, H. C. and SHERWIN, A., Peel Works, Silk Street, Salford, Lancashire. March 20, 1931, No. 8636. [Class 35.] A synchronous motor for driving electric clocks and like purposes comprises two members forming an air gap with alternating polepieces and a third rotating on an axis coaxial with the air gap and having polar projections of similar polarity spaced by an amount approximately equal to the space between similar poles in the air gap. In the arrangement shown, the air gap is formed by two cylindrical members 1, 2 furnished with polepieces 11, 12 and enclosing coils 15, 16 for alternating current. Between the coils 15, 16 rotates a permanent magnet 17, Fig. 2, furnished with polepieces 20, 21, 22, Fig. 3, spaced by the same amounts as the polepieces 11. In a modification the rotor is outside the pieces forming an air gap one of which may then be a disc ; in this case the ends of the rotor may be hooked over the edges of the disc.
