479,178. Alternating-current motors. WHITEHEAD, R. H. May 4, 1937, No. 12747. [Class 35] Cores.-Each of the two stator poles of an induction starting synchronous motor is subdivided into four or more sections with shading coils looping alternate sections and the shading coils also serve as clamps for the non-shaded sections. In the form shown in Fig. 1, each of the two stator poles 10, 11 each has four subdivisions and the shading coils 31 also serve to clamp the laminae of the pole sections. The sections 16, 18, 20 and 22 are shaded, cuts such as 32, 33, being made in the shading coils adjacent the other sections. The rotor has a squirrel cage winding and the hollow rivets 28, serving as conductors, may be disposed in open slots as indicated in Fig. 3.
