Abstract
732,743. Induction starting synchronous motors. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 1, 1953 [June 5, 1952], No. 15201/53. Class 35. A self-starting synchronous motor has a stator wound for two pole numbers and a rotor having a cage winding for starting purposes, the rotor having two sets of unwound axial poles, one set of which having as many poles as the stator for one speed and the other set having as many poles as the stator for the other speed. The, squirrel cage rotor has four grooves 17 running axially throughout the whole length so as to. form four poles on the part 18 of the rotor; this part co-operates with a 4-polar stator. There are also grooves 19 located between the grooves 17 on the rotor part 20 about onequarter of the total length of the rotor so as to form eight poles to co-operate with an 8-polar stator, the stator winding being 3-phase and delta-connected for one pole number.
