Abstract

629,684. A.C. machines. SUMMERLIN, F. A., FISHER, F. J., and SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Ltd. March 3, 1947, No. 6063. [Class 35] In an A.C. machine with an annular stator coil or coils concentric with a multi-pole rotor the stator core is formed of groups of laminµ, the laminµ in each group extending circumferential of the coil and terminating end on to form pole-pieces or parts of pole-pieces. In Fig. 5, packs of laminae are bent as shown to provide .pole-pieces united by curved portions 15 while in Fig. 8 each of the pole-pieces is formed by the terminal portions of two oppositely extending packets of laminµ bent as shown. The stator co-operates with one or more rotors of the D.C. excited or permanent magnet type, the rotors being staggered in the case of a polyphase machine, or alternatively there may be two or more angularly staggered stators, or as a further alternative there may be two or more coils on a single stator core, e.g. to give two different voltages. The machine may operate as a synchronous motor. The laminae may be secured in position by synthetic resin cement and there may be a plastic coating over the whole stator.
