Abstract

626,823. Securing coils for dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and POHL, R. Sept. 1, 1947, No. 24102. [Class 35] An edgewise formed coil is fixed to a pole of a dynamoelectric machine by retaining members extending mainly radially along the pole. Fig. 2 shows in cross-sections an edgewise coil 2 fixed to salient pole 1 by retaining members 8, each having a beaded edge 7 engaging semi-closed slots along the inner edges of coil 2. The other edge of each of the members 8 may be welded to the pole 1 or beaded to engage semi-closed slots in the pole member. The edges 7 are covered with insulating material. An annular space 9 between the inner sides of coil 2 and the faces of pole 1 permits circulation of cooling air, the clamps at the ends of a coil being spaced from the rotor boss and pole shoe by suitably slotted or ducted insulating members.
