[Class 35] The separate coils in each slot of a stator are separated by insulation which is of such form and so located that it secures the first wound coil while the next is being wound in position. As shown in Fig. 1, the lower coil 4 is held in position while the coil 6 is wound in position, by a thin strip 5 and a U-shaped insulating slot liner 2, 2 having flanged edges 3. In a modification, these flanges may be replaced by wedge-shaped portions glued to the side members 2. In Fig. 3 the ends 11 of an outer slot liner are turned over to secure the inner liner 10 which holds the lower coil 4. In a modification, the slot opening may be formed with hook-shaped edges for holding the slot liner.
