Abstract
759,960. Electric motor coils and insulation. REDMOND CO., Inc. May 7, 1954 [Oct. 14, 1953], No. 13487/54. Class 35. An electric motor stator comprising pole pieces 4 projecting from a ring and terminating in pole faces 10 has electrically insulating material moulded in situ on and substantially completely covering the side and end surfaces 16, 18 of the pole pieces 4 and the radially inner surface of the ring for a length corresponding to the axial length of the pole pieces; the insulating material also forms tongues 52 extending substantially in axial alignment with the pole faces 10 and other portions 50 radially spaced from the tongues and disposed adjacent the inner surface of the ring, the tongues 52 and portions 50 extending axially beyond the end surfaces 16 of the pole pieces 4 to define channels in which energizing coils 14 are subsequently wound. As shown, the stator laminations 2 are mounted in a ring 6 of non-magnetic material, e.g. aluminium, which may be die cast about the laminations, and each pole piece 4 may have a notch 20 in which is disposed a shading coil 24 which may be a loop of strip copper or an aluminium die casting. Suitable insulating material and a die in which it is moulded about the core are described in the Specification.
