Abstract

705,650. Insulation for dynamo-electric machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 6, 1952 [Oct. 5, 1951], No. 24986/52. Class 35 A primary member for a dynamo-electric machine comprises a core with slots to receive two windings arranged one above the other, the respective end turns of which being separated by an annular member of insulating material having a substantially U- or V-shaped cross section. Figs. 1, 2 show a 1-ph. motor having a laminated stator core 1 with slots 3 to receive a running winding 6 and a starting winding 9 the respective end turns 7, 10 of which are separated by an insulating annular member 14 of substantially V- shape in cross section. Fig. 4 shows a development of the insulating member 14 prior to its installation. The member 14 comprises sides 15, 16 which are then bent to produce the annular shape of the ring 14 with a V-shaped section as in Fig. 3 (not shown). Also the member 14 has openings 17 adjacent to the apex line 18 through which the various coil ends 19 extend. A board 24 for the external leads 21 is held in position by the ring 14 or the board may be integral part of the latter. The windings 6, 9 are separated in the slots 3 by separators 13. The other end turns 8<SP>1</SP>, 11 disposed on the other side of the core 2 are separated by an insulating annular member 28, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). The above method of insulating end turns may also be applied to rotor windings.
