511,496. Dynamo-electric machines. SCINTILLA, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1938, No. 4543. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1937. [Class 35] A dynamo-electric machine for use in wireless - telegraphy and telephony has a number of separate armature windings feeding different circuits, the conductors of at least one of the windings being electrostatically screened by sheets of conducting foil electrically connected to a body of substantially constant potential the sheets enveloping the conductors but being insulated therefrom and also from the armature core, and the armature core being also electrically connected to the body of constant potential. The armature laminations A are held between insulating end plates 8, 9 and has the conductors of two separate windings 18, 30 wound in the same slots and connected to commutators 5, 6. Between the commutators and at the end plates, conducting drums 10, 11 are provided, these and the armature laminations being connected to earth, the metal casing or any other body of constant potential by way of the shaft 1 and one or both bearings 2, 3. The insulated conductors 18 of the lower winding are surrounded by tinfoil 16 connected by foil strips 13 to the drum 10 and above the end windings 20 is another foil band 28 connected to the foil 16. At the other end of the armature, the end turns 19 are screened by a foil band 22 cut into lobes at 23 and connected to a foil band 25 but insulated from the foil 16. The conducting loops formed by the connection of the drum 10 to the band 28 through the strips 13 and the end portions of the strips 16 extend only a short distance in the direction of the armature axis so that the magnetic flux encircled by these loops varies by a small amount only and no electric currents are generated in the screening foil.
